On August 12th, District 301 celebrated Gaj Mahotsav at the National Zoo, a groundbreaking and first of its kind in India event conceptualized by District Chairman Dr. Manisha Kaushik. The event, involving 101 children from three NGOs, Inner Wheel members and zoo staff, was graced by IIWP Mrs. Mamta Gupta, AP Mrs. Sunita Jain, and other dignitaries.
Activities included a walk to Hathi Baada,
a nukkad natak,
tree plantation -“Ek ped Maa ke Naam” and
a skit by Harmony House NGO children. The district also distributed
101 sets of school bags,
101 pairs of shoes,
101 Shristi Games,
101 environment dental kits,
101 caps and
101 T-shirts
to all the 101 children. To the Zoo Staff
450 Uniforms,
450 pairs of Slippers,
450 Raincoats was distributed as well as 2250 kgs of Rice for the Elephants and their Mahavats. District 301 adopted
3 Indian Star Turtles and
2 Elephants for a year.
Putting together a project of this magnitude was a Herculean task and our District Chairman was greatly supported by DESO PDC Madhu Nagpal and PDC Gita Dhawan and the members of IWC Delhi Achievers. Many of the participating clubs also lent a helping hand in the arrangements.
The event, which cost ₹9,29,985, saw participation from 53 clubs and received widespread appreciation.
